Helpful friends – Leaning in to our support systems

Helpful friends – Metal energy – Autumn – Leaning in to our support system

The season of Autumn in feng shui is associated with metal energy. Metal energy encourages us to consoldiate our energy. To  “cut away” and release what no longer serves us as we head into the yin phase of the year.

For 2025 in particular, our invitation energetically has been to seek out community & connection with like-minded people and to spend time working together to come up with different approaches and new solutions.

I ching symbols in feng shui

The trigram associated with this energy is Chien – three unbroken lines.

The three solid lines symbolise the divine energy which brings everything into being and good fortune.

This is  full yang energy and represents primal father energy, the divine energy which brings everything into being.

Associated with duty and responsibility towards others. Associated with Harvest and reaping what we sow. This  trigram has a polarity with SUN in that it requires us to use our good fortune, for the good of all. Being Altruistic, considering others and our environment

This energy is associated with reciprocal support,  altruism, considering the well being of others and gratitude.

Duty, responsibility and support

Metal energy is connected  with guidance, intuition and travel – reaching out into the world around us and asking: “how can I help, how can I serve?”.

The shape associated with metal energy is round. Our planet earth is a sphere, which is condensing and contracting in nature. Holding and protecting our atmosphere.

Metal energy is concerned with drawing our energy inward, gathering “round”- it is both supportive and containing in its energy.

This energy is concerned with philanthropy and volunteering to be of help to others. It is also associated with asking for and accepting help when we need it.

Enhancing the “helpful friends” area within our homes

In feng shui we map different areas of our built space with various life areas with an energy template known as the Bagua. This house of the bagua  has a strong polarity with the fourth house, SUN, known as abundance and blessings. For more infomation on how to enhance this area of your home and invite in more support and connection read my book “A Place to Call Home – your feng shui design guidebook to design, connection and belonging”

For this year in particular, you can add a small bowl of seasalt to this part of your home to cleanse and revitalise the energy here which encouraging connnection with healthy boundaries. You can add in the healing power of some balancing herbs such as thyme and lavender to further consolidate balance here.
