October – focus on creativity

October brings with it the contracting metal energy of the season of Autumn. The  trees are pulling their energy in and down into their roots, letting go of this years growth of leaves and fruits. The squirrels are busy gathering up their stores for the winter ahead, much like our ancestors have always done.

Celebrating what went well for us this year, reflecting on what may not have “gone to plan”.  Enjoying the sense of peace that comes after the labour of the “harvest” phase of the year.

Now our focus turns inward in earnest. In feng shui we associate this time of year with Tui/Lake and the harvest. Think of the energy of the farmer with the crop now harvested and saved in the barn. Now is the time to reflect on the growth of this year and plan accordingly for next year, while enjoying the fruits of this years labour.

This is sacral chakra energy; associated with the colour Orange, this is our creativity centre, housing new beginnings and our creative connection with our feelings and with others.

The sacral chakra is the centre of sensations, absorption of energy, of food and of music. This energy can be activated with tactile materials, melodious music, delightful flavours, exquisite scents and artwork which we find to be beautiful and which inspires us to be creative in turn. Whether that be in creating art, writing, cooking, baking, dancing, singing etc. Simply dressing the table for each meal with our best crockery and cutlery, adding some colour with a table cloth or table mats, making a centre piece with colourful fruits or “found items” from nature. This celebrates the nourishment of each meal, honouring the work we have done to gather the ingredients and prepare it.

Affirmation “I listen to my feelings, it is safe to feel my emotions, I am in harmony with the endless flow of new beginnings. I deserve to feel good.”

Letting go

Like the trees we now get to set down what we have been carrying; whatever will not serve us now as me move into the winter phase of the year. Opening up our “backpack” and examining what we have been dragging around with us; emotional baggage, patterns we have become stuck in etc. Releasing what we are now ready to let go of gives us a burst of energy, clears the “mental fog” and with it any sense of inner stagnation. Allowing us to reconnect with our vitality, calm our nervous system and tap into the inner nourishment available at the core of our being.
