Vision boards – inspirational Play

” A picture paints a thousand words”

An image can be infinitely more powerful than a written intention. It can tell a story, evoke a memory and conjure up a feeling, inspiring us in the process.

Many of us like to write and speak affirmations daily which is enormously powerful to impact our mood and our general resolve to keep going to achieve our goals.

A vision board is a way of consolidating these affirmations and intentions into a physical positive affirmation which can remind us at a glance where our intentions lie.

Why is intention important?

Well, it’s like setting out on a journey with or without a plan of where you are going. Either way you will be moving, but when you set an intention its like locking your destination in from the outset, now you are heading in the direction of your goals.

Once you “set out your stall” with your intentions, you can copper-fasten them into place with a visual que or reminder in the form of a vision board. Then every time you feel doubt or indecision creeping in, you can look at it and remind yourself of where you are headed.

Then, in the words of Henry David Thoreau you can:

“Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined”

Feng shui inspired vision boards

When you layer in the feng shui life areas you can get really granular about what you intend for each area of your life or focus on just one or two that you are working on at the moment. Using images which are inspired by the element or energetic signature associated with each life area. (for more granular detail on the bagua life areas, their essence, elements and energetics, read my book “A Place to Call Home, your feng shui guidebook to design connection and belonging”

In the current global climate I also include an image of a “bubble of protection” which allows me to feel safe and supported in this time of great transition and transformation.

Inspiring yourself and keeping yourself motivated throughout the day.

Place your vision board somewhere you will see it every day. I have mine pinned to a cork board in my office, to which I have added written affirmations and some fairy lights for added sparkle to illuminate my path forward.

For those of a more artistic persuasion, taking out some paints, coloured pencils or collage materials and “drawing in” your intentions is this way is profoundly impactful.

Consider this is your invitation to engage in some intentional play!
