Springtime and new beginnings

March heralds the coming of Spring

Connection and belonging

In feng shui we associate with energy with Wood/tree which has an association with family, ancestors and the past.

Our connection to our family or chosen tribe and our sense of being in community with others, speaks to our rootedness. This makes us feel stable and strong or conversely to feelings of instability and being scattered or “all over the place”.

The strength of our roots, in terms of our lineage and our sense of belonging to our current tribe/family speaks to our sense of feeling grounded and secure. This is the support system necessary for all new growth and development  in our lives.

I Ching – Thunder

In the I Ching the energy associated with Spring-time is Chen (Zhen) the natural phenomenon of thunder, which precedes a storm. The clap of thunder breaking through the heavy air to herald change.

The thunder aspect of Chen is related to our teachers who influence and guide us.

Thunder is a wake up call reminding us that we are the spark – the energetic manifestation of life! Like thunder, our elders or ancestors precede us, heralding our coming, laying down the path for our progression.

Integrating and acknowledging our past

A commonality between all indigenous cultures is the practise of honouring and connecting to the ancestors. They recognised that we carry our ancestors inside us in our DNA and in honouring and blessing those that have gone before, we honour and bless ourselves.

There is no separation between us and our ancestral line, as this spirit energy travels through the generations slipping from one body to the next, learning, growing and evolving as it does so.

We are a culmination of all of the experiences of our ancestors, all of the knowledge they gathered, their traumas and triumphs is contained within our being and we reap the benefit of this cumulative experience.

Heart centered community

In the chakra system, our heart chakra is our centre for loving connection, sharing and community. The energy of family is truly a heart centred space.

As long as we are cultivating connection and community we are building this family/tribe energy in our lives. Gathering in groups is essential for our progression through life, we cannot do it alone. Social interaction is essential to our sense of balance and for future growth and development.

This month we are invited to tap into this rising and proceeding energy of Spring by reaching out and connecting to others in community. We can choose any group which calls us. It doesn’t have to have a lofty goal, it can simply be a local craft group, a walking club, a yoga class, a book club or a community clean up group. Whatever sparks our interest.

This is the time to make connections and to reawaken our life-force after the long winter months, through new experiences and the excitement of new beginnings.
