Essential oil to support stillness and a return home to ourselves

Spikenard
Nardostachys jatamansi
This Sacred oil from the root of this ancient plant, is one to be treated with great respect and used sparingly with intention.
Its deep, resonant, comforting scent stirs the Heart and Crown chakras.
For me this oil feels like a drumbeat, reverberating throughout the chakras, calling me home to myself and to my connection to all who have walked this path before me.
This sacred scent Invites stillness, rest and the clarity that results from rooting our energy into this present moment. It encourages us to simply BE.
Rooting our energy back into the earth
Spikenards earthy scent feels gathering and settling, reminiscent of ancient gatherings around a sacred fire. Its root structure invites us to root ourselves into our connnection to Mother Earth.
This time of year reminds us that there is a time to let go, to release what we no longer need to carry. Drawing our energy in and down. While there is stillness on the surface in Winter, much is still happening beneath the surface. And so it is with us. When we quieten our outer aspect we can focus on our inner realm, connecting to what is true for us.
As we move toward the Winter solstice we are invited to connect to the light within us.
There is nothing to be done but to be still and listen inward.
This very sacred scent connects us to the generations who have gone before us, connecting us to their collective wisdom. To our inherent knowledge that stillness is just as productive as activity.
The deep earthy, warm and inviting scent of Spikenard roots us into ourselves and reminds us who we are.
A mindful sit with Spikenard:
Add 1 drop of Spikenard to 1tsp of carrier oil such as jojoba. Mix well and massage it into your chest above your heart chakra. Cup your hands and inhale its deep earthy aroma.
Allow your breath to slow.
If it feels comfortable, allow your exhale to be just a little longer than your inhale.
Drop your shoulders, take a deep sigh releasing tension.
Let go of any need to “hold it all together”
Exhale and know that in this time of transition you are held and supported.
Rest, reflect and allow clarity to find you in these calm, quiet moments.
Note down anything which becomes clear to you during this process.
NB When incorporating essential oils into your daily practice; always check if the oil you are working with feels right for you.
- Open the cap and sniff it gently at a distance, asking yourself; does this oil feel right for me for right now? If you feel any negative response, whether physical or vibrational, then choose a different oil. Everyone is different.
- Trust your intuition. Your body knows what it needs.
- Treat essential oils as plant medicine. Store them in a cool dark place out of direct sunlight. Recap the bottle immediately after use to avoid oxidation. Remember that it takes an enormous amount of plant matter to distil just a few drops of essential oil. Connect to, thank and honour the plant kingdom as you work with these precious oils.
Keep out of reach of young children and only diffuse essential oils in a well ventilated space where small animals have the option to leave the room if they need to do so.
