A fresh start, a bright lantern, and a little feng shui inspiration

Igniting your inner fire for  2026

The Chinese Lunar New Year is a beautiful 15-day celebration that begins with the first new moon of the lunar calendar (this year on February 17th) and gently unfolds until the first full moon — the Lantern Festival — on March 3rd, 2026.

🌕 Day 15: The Lantern Festival

The Lantern Festival marks the first full moon of the lunar year — a symbol of completion, illumination, and new beginnings all at once. Traditionally, lanterns are lit to invite blessings, clarity, and good fortune for the year ahead.

You don’t need a grand display to honour this moment. Simply lighting a candle at the full moon and setting a heartfelt intention can be a powerful ritual. Think of it as a quiet conversation with the year ahead — what are you ready to welcome in?

🔥 2026 — The Year of the Fire Horse

This year carries the dynamic energy of the Fire Horse — passionate, innovative, forward-moving, and transformative. In Chinese metaphysics, we move through a 60-year cycle that combines 12 animal archetypes with 5 elemental energies. Each pairing creates a distinct energetic signature for the year.

Fire Horse years are rarely dull. They tend to stir momentum, courage, and bold change. There can be a sense of acceleration — ideas catching flame, projects gaining speed, long-held dreams asking to be expressed.

The invitation for this year is:  Stay grounded while embracing the spark.

🌊✨ A Note on Feng Shui for 2026

Alongside the 60-year cycle, feng shui also considers another 9-year energetic cycle (Flying Stars / 9 Star Ki). Think of this less as superstition and more like seasonal awareness — we naturally dress differently in winter than we do in summer. Energy cycles work much the same way.

In 2026, the 1 Water Star moves to the centre. Water meeting Fire can create a little tension — emotionally or energetically this may feel draining, scattered, or slightly destabilising at times. Because of this, the theme of the year is integrity, intuition, and calm, clear communication. Staying centred will be key.

Meanwhile, the powerful 9 Fire Star moves to the South East — one of the most influential positions this year. This is where we can consciously activate supportive fire energy in our homes to illuminate future prosperity and visibility.

🌿 Simple Ways to Welcome the Year’s Blessings

You don’t need to overhaul your home — small, intentional placements can have a powerful impact.

At your entrance (where energy first arrives):

  • Clear and tidy the space in front of your door
  • Wash down the front door and any glass or windows
  • Add colourful seasonal plants to attract vibrant chi
  • Check that the light above your door is working well
  • Replace a worn or tired doormat
  • Place fresh flowers, a bright image, or a small bowl of sea salt on your hall table to cleanse and uplift the energy

In the South East of your home:

  • Add fire element touches — candles, warm lighting, or fiery tones in artwork and décor
  • Add symbolism which you associate with abundance and blessings.
  • Intentionally “shine a light” on what you’re calling into your future

To ignite your inner fire:
Diffuse or spritz warming essential oils such as Orange, Black Pepper, or Ginger to uplift your mood, energise your space, and support forward momentum.

And if you’d like a more tailored approach, consulting your personal 9 Star Ki chart can offer deeper guidance for navigating the year in alignment with your unique energetic signature.

As we move into this Fire Horse year, may you feel both inspired and steady — willing to honour the spark of change while staying rooted in your own truth and integrity.

Light your lantern. Set your intention. Let the year unfold. ✨
